LEASING QUESTIONS ANSWERED

Clear answers to the questions customers most often ask about leasing a car or van. If your question is not covered, call us on 01772 977979.

Vehicle leasing is a long-term rental. You choose a vehicle, initial rental, contract length and annual mileage, then make fixed monthly payments for the agreed term. You do not own the vehicle and return it to the finance provider at the end of the agreement.

Personal Contract Hire is for individuals and prices include VAT. Business Contract Hire is for eligible businesses and prices are normally shown excluding VAT. Both are fixed-term rental agreements, but eligibility, tax treatment and documentation differ.

The finance provider will normally ask for identity, address, employment or business and bank details. Individuals may need a valid driving licence or passport and recent proof of address. Businesses may need company information, accounts or bank statements. Requirements vary by funder and application.

You must be at least 18 and meet the finance provider's eligibility and credit requirements. A full UK driving licence will normally be needed for the vehicle you intend to drive.

Most agreements run for 24, 36 or 48 months. Available terms depend on the vehicle and finance provider. A shorter term does not always mean a lower monthly rental, so compare the total contract cost as well as the monthly figure.

The initial rental is usually equal to one, three, six, nine or twelve monthly rentals. Paying more initially normally reduces the monthly amount, but it does not reduce the overall cost by the same amount. Choose a profile that suits your cash flow.

Vehicle Excise Duty is normally included for the contract term, subject to the wording of your agreement. If Government tax rates change, the finance provider may pass on the increase.

Many offers can include a maintenance package for an additional monthly cost. Cover varies by provider but may include routine servicing, tyres, breakdown assistance and selected repairs. Check the exact inclusions before you order.

Yes, provided they are legally entitled to drive and are covered by a fully comprehensive insurance policy for that vehicle. The lease customer remains responsible for complying with the agreement.

The finance provider will normally charge an excess mileage fee for each mile above the contracted allowance. The rate is confirmed in your agreement. Contact us or the provider early if your expected mileage changes.

When you lease, you pay to use the vehicle for an agreed term and return it at the end. When you buy, you fund the full purchase price and own the vehicle once any finance is repaid. Leasing can provide predictable monthly payments without the responsibility of selling the vehicle later.

No. Personal Contract Hire and Business Contract Hire are rental agreements, so ownership remains with the finance provider. At the end of the agreement the vehicle is normally inspected, collected and returned.

Contract hire agreements do not normally include an option to buy. In some circumstances the finance provider may consider a purchase request, but this is entirely at its discretion and should never be assumed when taking the lease.

Yes. Vehicle leasing is subject to status and approval by the finance provider. The provider will assess the information in your application and may use a credit reference agency before deciding whether to offer finance.

Yes, subject to the finance provider's eligibility and credit checks. You may be asked for trading details, accounts, bank statements or other evidence of income depending on the provider and how long you have been trading.

Potentially. Some finance providers consider newly established businesses, although they may request additional information or a director's guarantee. Available options depend on the business, vehicle and provider.

Personal leasing prices include VAT. Business leasing prices are normally displayed excluding VAT. Always check whether Personal or Business is selected before comparing an offer and review the full quotation before ordering.

Your quotation will explain the initial rental, monthly rentals and our processing fee. Other charges may apply for excess mileage, damage outside fair wear and tear, early termination, fines or changes to the agreement. These depend on the finance provider and your contract.

Yes. You must arrange fully comprehensive insurance from the delivery date and keep it in place throughout the agreement. The policyholder and permitted drivers must meet the insurer's requirements, and the vehicle should normally be insured in the name shown on the lease agreement.

Delivery times vary. An in-stock vehicle may be available relatively quickly, while a factory order can take several months. We will share the latest estimated timescale before you order and keep you updated, but manufacturer and transport delays can occur.

An in-stock vehicle has usually already been built and is available from a dealer or distribution centre. A factory order is built to your chosen specification and generally takes longer. Stock vehicles may offer faster delivery but fewer choices of colour or options.

Standard delivery to a mainland Great Britain address is normally included unless your quotation says otherwise. Charges or restrictions may apply to certain locations, timed deliveries or specialist vehicles, so please check your quotation.

Usually, but you must obtain the finance provider's permission and any required documentation before travelling. You should also check your insurance, breakdown cover and the driving requirements for every country you plan to visit.

You can request early termination, but the finance provider will normally charge a fee which can be substantial. Ask us or the provider for a written early-termination quotation before making a decision.

The finance provider will arrange an inspection and collection. The vehicle should be returned with its keys, documents and equipment, within the contracted mileage and in a condition consistent with the BVRLA Fair Wear and Tear Guide. Charges may apply for excess mileage, missing items or damage outside the accepted standard.
